Professor Pooch's Biography
(In Short...)

Professor Pooch

Better known as "Professor Pooch" by his friends, students, clients, and many thousands of others in the Music Industry, David J. Spangenberg has been a Music & Music Business Consultant, Advisor, Educator, Author, Mediator, and Music & Film Contract Specialist for over 35 years, guiding the careers of many past, present and future Singers, Songwriters, Musicians, and Producers, on the Creative side, and as a Consultant to many Managers, Music Publishers, Production Companies, Indie Record & Film Companies, Recording Studios, and Attorneys on the Business and Contractual side.

A Violinist at age 8, a Singer/Guitarist at 13, a Keyboardist, Arranger and Producer by 18, Professor Pooch ("Pooch") has always been interested in Music and the Music Industry. He received his first Professional break at 16 when Producer Jimmy Ienner (3 Dog Night, The Raspberries, Eric Carmen, etc.) met him while listening to a group Pooch was Producing.

Meanwhile, a song Pooch wrote with another writer for another Artist was coming out on a Major Label - without Pooch's name on it! At that point he decided he better step back and learn and experience the Business and Legal Side of The Music Industry as well!

To make a very, very long story very short, while given the "Star Treatment" as a Singer-songwriter with a couple of major "Hit Record Producers", Jimmy Ienner and Gene McDaniels (Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight, etc.), David picked up everything he could from his music business "surroundings", working in and around Studios, Publishing, Management and Recording Companies.

Starting in the early '80's, many frustrated creative and business-oriented individuals and companies started coming to David asking for help regarding their careers. It was then David realized how much he really enjoyed helping people "Get In, Survive, and Succeed - Without Getting Ripped Off!", and he found himself guiding many people's careers over many years, working pretty far behind the scenes.

In 1991 he was asked to develop and teach the "Artist Management", "Songwriting/Music Publishing", and "Entertainment Law" Courses at the "Art Institute of Philadelphia" in the various Music Business & Video Departments. It was there that David realized how much he loved teaching and helping others as much as he enjoyed making music.

David's courses and his book "The Music Biz" (required reading for over 2,500 students), are now commercially available in text and audio by Streaming & Downloads on his site, with Kindle & Print versions available on Amazon.com. They are always up-to-date, keeping up with the constant changes and happenings in the Music Industry. Many other educational & edu-tainment Texts, Audios & Videos are also available on professorpooch.com, Facebook, and YouTube, plus many other places on the Internet.

David's latest book, "God Didn't Create Alarm Clocks," is aimed at all Creative Entrepreneurs and was written to not only help educate them on the Business & Legal sides, but also, help them learn about themselves as well as dealing with all types of people and situations they will meet throughout their journey.

Professor Pooch, also has created and records Music Business Radio Shows, Podcasts ("PoochCast™"), blogs (100+), and has appeared on many radio, video and print interviews and lectures (100+), along with becoming very involved with Visual educational-related Multimedia Projects, as well as lecturing and guiding people on the Video & Film end, especially as it relates to Music. As David notes, "It's not simply 'Music' anymore - it's "'Multimedia'"!

Over the last several years David has also Acted (featured roles) in many Indie TV Shows & Films, Videos & Web-series releases. David is a character actor, who has played God, Wizards, mental patients and homeless people, among other character-driven roles. David is also a voice actor, recording voices for commercials, animated features, self-improvement books & courses, etc.

Most importantly, David inspires everyone who comes in contact with him, and is known as an catalyst who gets people moving forward in a positive frame of mind - and therefore a positive direction. His talent and experience in the creative, business and legal/contractual sides of Music & Film, as well as his uncanny insight into people, and finally his enjoyment in helping people achieve their dreams, make him a valuable resource to all in the Entertainment Industry.
